MAY/JUNE

I am delighted to let you know that I have now finished the first draft of my second book in the Uist Girl Series. Now the hard work begins! Editing is really when the book is created. After I have revised the first draft, I then ask some friends to read it and give me feedback. Depending on what they say, there is another edit followed by a copy edit to pick up all the typos. It doesn’t matter how often I go over the book, there are always some typos after I’ve published. Then it’s time to set the manuscript up for publishing which can take a bit of time. However, I am hopeful it will be ready for publishing in the Autumn. At the moment, I don’t have a title for the book. The names I was thinking of using have all been taken by other authors, so I want to use something different. I might put up some suggestions and ask you what you think. I will also need to decide on a cover. So, it is all go.
Since I last wrote Charlie and I have been away in our motorhome to Norfolk and walked part of the Coastal Path there. It was beautiful. We walked on stunning beaches, spongy salt marshes, and craggy cliffs. We saw and heard a myriad of sea birds; it was a twitcher’s paradise. My little BirdNet App came in very useful. We stopped in delightful villages and seaside towns for coffee and lunch and what pleased me most were the toilets. There were toilets in every place we passed through, all clean with hot and cold running water. Normally on a walking holiday, the facilities are rather rustic! We also met up with some ukulele enthusiasts in Sheringham and enjoyed a lovely afternoon playing and singing with them. Norwich and Cambridge, were two other places we visited on the way home. Both lovely cities and worth a visit.
I was struck by the virus again recently, which was a bit annoying, but it meant I could work full time on my book when I had the energy. I’ve put some photos up and will write again when I have anything to report.
